Drugs only treat symptoms and effects and wait for a permanent change

January 31, 2009 By: http://www.BEHAPPYDIETING.COM Category: Health and Fitness No Comments →

A lean body and an obese body are effects. Both of these effects have causes. If you’re overweight, you can create lasting changes 100% of the time if you find the cause of the obese condition and remove it. The cause of body fat in most cases is inactivity, poor nutrition and often a negative self-image. Taking drugs is only treating the effect (the fat). Even if the fat (the effect) is momentarily removed, it will always come back if the cause is still there. The idea that some people were born to be fat is ridiculous and terribly disempowering. Equally disastrous is the belief that any pill will ever be a long-term way out to the obesity epidemic. Depending on your genetics, you may never look like Mr. or Miss Olympia, but you always have the power to improve your body and your health above and outside where you are today.

How? By accepting 100% total responsibilities for your situation and then taking positive action every day for the rest of your life to improve it. You simply have to change your lifestyle! Try to fight the law or shirk hard work by looking for short cuts if you want, but in the end, you’ll always lose. Try to ignore the law if you want, but ignorance of the rapid weight loss law does not plea you from its operation. Lifelong health, fitness and a perfect body weight do not come out of a bottle or needle and NEVER will – no matter what new concoction they cook up in the lab. Those who think otherwise may gain temporary relief from health woes or enjoy some short-term advantages, but unless they change their lifestyles, they’ll have some hard lessons to learn in the long run.

I envision a day when both the medical and fitness communities will unite to help stop this monumental error in thinking, and begin to teach people how to improve their lifestyles and alter their mental behaviors instead of writing prescriptions and selling “magic” pills. Dr. Joseph Mercola said it well:

“It is my vision to make over the existing medical paradigm from one addicted to pharmaceuticals, surgeries and other methods that only conceal or remove specific symptoms – with morbid results to our health and economy — to one focused on treating and preventing the underlying causes.”

Taking ANY type of drugs to lose weight is never more than a desperate, fear-driven, short-term solution to a problem with deeply rooted and often unseen causes. To permanently become lean, you must identify the causes of excess fat, which can consist of poor nutrition, inactivity, unhealthy lifestyle, and negative self-image, and treat those. Only when the source of your problem is removed, will the unwanted effects disappear for good. I’d like to caution you about the low carb diet mindset of trying to get more results in less time. You should always, of course, look for ways get the most benefit from every minute you spend in the gym and improve the efficiency of your workouts. What I’m referring to when I speak of the “more for less” mindset is the error of looking for better results in the form of a “secret” training program, short cut, miracle pill, or effortless, “overnight” cure without putting in any effort.

There’s an excellent line between training enough to stimulate growth and overtraining. We are warned continually not to overtrain or we’ll hold back our strength and muscle gains. We are as well cautioned not to do too much aerobics or we’ll lose the muscle we already have. It’s true that lots of people are overtraining – maybe even most people. But just as there’s fine a line between finest training and overtraining, there’s also a fine line between optimal training and undertraining.

Find Out The Truth About Low Calorie Food

January 30, 2009 By: http://www.BEHAPPYDIETING.COM Category: Health and Fitness No Comments →

Are you a bit of a risk taker when you want to shed off weight? If you are; the 500 Calorie Intake may be just what you’re looking for. The truth about this diet is it is considered an extreme form of dieting; but is highly popular. Low Calorie Intake are common and 500 calories is at the lower end of the scale.

A diet is considered low calorie if it involves ingesting no more than 1200 calories per day. The idea of a low calorie diet is to lose weight quickly. If not administered correctly they can be dangerous and as such it is important to plan your 500 calorie Intake with a professional dietitian or nutritionist before starting. This article will help you to decide if the low calorie diet is right for you.

It is well known that the way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in. However a very 500 calorie intake can actually do more harm than good. When your body is craving more calories (energy) it can affect your metabolic rate. This means your body actually starts to eat away at your muscle mass.

It is doing this for the purpose of converting the muscle mass to energy, since there are no food reserves to take from. Because gaining muscle is the path to losing fat, this can have a highly detrimental effect on your body.

500 calories per day may be sufficient for some people depending on their:
– Gender
– Activity level
– Height
– Body type
– Overall health and well being

For other people though, particularly overweight people, consuming only 500 calories a day is almost like starving yourself. Your body is more than likely used to taking in over 2000 calories per day and up to 5000 or more. If you all of a sudden drop to 500 calories or less your body moves into starvation mode. Your metabolism then slows down to conserve energy.

While you are on the 500 calorie diet your body will get used to live with fewer calories. That means if you go back to your old high calorie habits (as all too many people do) you will have a sudden gain in weight, which is more than what would have occurred, had you not gone on your low cal diet.

The only real way to determine your ideal daily calorie intake is by using a bmr/amr calculator. You will then know how many calories you need to be healthy and to support your lifestyle. If you take 500 calories away from this, then you have the ideal number of calories, to take in per day to help you get your weight down.

As men and women are obviously different their ideal calorie intake is also different. This of course means while the average woman may need only 1200 to 1300 calories a day to survive, her male counterpart may need from 1500 to 1600. Again this is why it is so important for you to consult with your physician before starting any diet.

In conclusion a low calorie food can be dangerous. However, if proper precautions are taken, such as a physical, to determine your overall health fitness, you can lose weight quickly .

January 27, 2009 By: http://www.BEHAPPYDIETING.COM Category: Health and Fitness No Comments →

The first of all, the just one things you want to lose fat permanently are exercise, nutrition and the proper mental attitude. There is no diet shortcut or easy way to lose your fat permanently. A lot of people look for easy ways instead of making the effort to learn how to eat and train better. They immediately come to an end searching for a “shortcut” in the form of a pill or supplement. In fact, pills and supplements did not do anything except give you expensive urine. You need to set up exercise refer to Gymnasium’s standards, but at least you can get your cardio from several way like running, walking, jogging and riding a bike on an every day basis no less than 1-2 hours on medium or higher speed. If you just take exercise under 30-60 minutes, the possibilities are you just burn your blood sugar, not fat.

You need to swap your foods wisely, because there is a slightly differences between foods that burn fat and foods that turn to fat. Moreover you need to scrutinize your carbs and calories levels as a habit. Here’s the contradiction. When you eat less, your body burns less. When you eat more, your body burns more. The more you slash your calories, the more your metabolism slows down. Very low calorie diets not only slow your metabolism so you burn fewer calories, they can also cause muscle loss. Eventually, they shut down your metabolism completely. When this happens, the weight loss stops and any increase in calories that follows will cause immediate fat gain, recognized as “rebound effect”. In fact, very low calorie diets can in fact make you fatter!

After all, you need the proper mental attitude to keep you on track to achieve permanent fat loss and keep it forever. As well as to safe you from any possibilities that could change your mind from proper scheme to lose your fat permanently. And the possibilities could be come from outside or inside you. However you can also constantly attempt to search for truthful fat loss scheme from credible ‘Master’ in the field and the ultimate programs that they recommended achieving desirable permanent fat loss. Your body is 70% water, so it’s easy to lose weight quickly. Any diet that dehydrates you will generate quick, dramatic weight loss. Want to lose 10 pounds over the weekend?

That’s easy! Just stop drinking water! Certainly that would be pretty dumb and pretty dangerous too, but that’s exactly what you’re doing when you lose weight that rapidly (you’re simply dehydrating yourself – or even worse – you’re losing lean body weight too!). The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), one of the largest and most respected health, medical and exercise organizations in the world, has well-known loose weight guidelines for healthy rates of weight loss. In their position statement on “Proper and improper weight loss programs,” the ACSM recommends losing weight at a rate of no more than two pounds per week.

Our bodies were not doomed to sit behind a desk all day long. We need daily exercise to benefit our overall health and especially to strengthen all our muscles including our heart. Exercise can also help you sleep better and improve your mood, so whether a high impact workout at the gym or a stroll through the neighborhood, hit the pavement and give yourself the finest reward.

We all have those few foods that we know aren’t t good for us yet we have a hard time staying away from them. When we try to restrict these foods from our diet, we tend to overindulge at some point. Allow yourself a treat from time to time, but keep in mind to keep it within moderation. Try having a few bites of cake as opposed to the whole slice at a special occasion.

A Simple Way to Get Tips About best diet

January 26, 2009 By: http://www.BEHAPPYDIETING.COM Category: Health and Fitness No Comments →

This article gives free tips and advice about weight loss. Dieting does not need to be a choir, however many of the weight loss programs that are available make it this way. During the article, I describe an easy to follow diet or weight loss program which has helped me to reach a weight that I am now happy and feel comfortable with.

My background

My name is Steve Hill and I struggled to keep my weight under control for the first twenty-two years of my life. I was often teased at school and found it very hard to meet girls as I believed that there would be no way, that they would want to date somebody as fat as myself.

I was a very negative person and I frequently felt stressed and depressed. I often felt sorry for myself and would feel envious of other people who seemed fit, healthy and happy. During these periods of depression, I would often comfort eat to make myself feel better. I love food and this would temporarily help. The problem I found was that if I ate food for ten minutes, I would feel a sense of guilt for around two hours.

Like many people who are over-weight, I was not happy this way and often looked into different types of weight loss programs or diets. Maybe it is just me, but they seem so unrealistic and for somebody like myself impossible to follow. I needed a simple, easy to follow weight loss program.

The solution to my weight problem

The first thing I had to do was to be honest with myself. I asked myself a series of questions:

Why are you over-weight?

I do not eat the right types of food and I rarely exercise.

How determined are you to lose weight?

Very determined.

Are you willing for this to be a long term project, or are you looking for a quick fix?

The quicker the better, however I realise that crash diets do not work and end up causing more harm than good.

Do you feel you have enough self-discipline to succeed?

I am not sure but I will have to have, to reach my target weight.

The weight loss plan

These are the things I must do:

Eat three healthy meals a day.

Exercise more. This will be achieved by leaving the car at home more often and by walking to certain places, such as my children’s school. I will also take the children to play sports like football and tennis, as often as I can.

Fight the demons in my head who constantly tempt me into eating.

These are the things I must not do:

Snack in between meals.

Eat too many take-aways, I will basically allow myself one a week.

Lie to other people or even myself about what I have eaten.

This sounds so simple and is very easy to follow. I have to admit that it is not that easy to carry off, especially not being able to snack between meals. With determination you can succeed and the sense of happiness and pride you will feel when you reach a weight you are happy with, will make it all worthwhile.

Unbiased Road Map to LA Weight Loss Program Explained Simply

January 25, 2009 By: http://www.BEHAPPYDIETING.COM Category: Health and Fitness No Comments →

Have you seen the TV ads for L.A. Weight Loss? According to some people, they are confusing. They don’t explain enough about “What is the L.A. weight loss program?”

The fact is, it’s an excellent support group with personalized nutrition guides and exercise routines. Your personal needs will determine how much time and money you’ll need to put in the program. L.A. Weight Loss centers assign you to your own personal counselor and have dieticians on site to help you reach your weight loss goals.

A free trial of their program is offered at some locations. This is a great way to see how it works firsthand. When you sign up for your free trial, you’ll be able to receive more information about the different packages available.

Each package includes weekly meetings with your counselor, and help with setting up a personalized, healthy menu. The biggest difference in the packages is how long you plan on following the program. Your weight loss goals, combined with your diet and exercise plan, will determine how long you should stay with the program.

Friends and family don’t always know what it’s like to be unhappy with your weight, and might wonder what is the L.A. Weight Loss program and why are you doing it. You can simply tell them that L.A. Weight Loss centers provide a community where everyone understands what you are going through, like trying to ignore the urge for late night cookies or forcing yourself to make it to the gym even though you really didn’t want to go.

Special events are planned to spice up your week and give you the opportunity to share recipes, stories, and tips with other members. You’ll find all the support you need and no judgments in your L.A. Weight Loss community.

Counselors are also a great source of support that is provided for members of L.A. Weight Loss centers. Weekly meetings with your counselor are set up to discuss how your eating habits and activities are going each week. When you find yourself struggling, your counselor will encourage you not to give up and is trained to find other options to help deal with the troubles you come across along the way. If going for daily jogs isn’t exciting enough for you, your counselor may suggest finding a friend to go jogging with for extra motivation.

Food can be your worst enemy when it comes to losing weight, but with proper knowledge on how food really affects your system it can be your new best friend.

Dietitians will tell you it’s not just the eating of enjoyable foods that is dangerous, it’s simply eating too much of them that packs on the pounds. They’ll help you plan meals that you can enjoy and that will have the right portions and a good balance to the kinds of food you’re eating. With a program like this, the question you should really be asking yourself is what is the L.A. Weight Loss program center closest to me?

Unbiased Guidelines to – 3 Easy Ways To Lose Holiday Weight

January 24, 2009 By: http://www.BEHAPPYDIETING.COM Category: Health and Fitness No Comments →

Brad said he’d been on a weight loss program for a long time but one of the reasons why it was difficult for him is because he always ends up adding several extra pounds during the holidays! In essence whatever weight Brad would lose during the whole year would return during the holiday season!

Fortunately, a few years ago Brad discovered some amazing weight loss tricks which helped him avoid holiday weight gain during the last two holidays. Here they are…

Cut down on sugar cravings with Oolong tea:

Sugar is very notorious for making a person gain weight quickly. Sugar in itself is bad enough because it tends to dissolve quickly into the body and convert into fat deposits, but the worst part is that eating sugary foods tends to increase your sugar cravings all the more! In simple words, if you eat sugary foods, you would keep eating them more and more!

The best option is to avoid sugar as much as possible, which you could do with the help of Oolong tea! You may or may not be aware of it but Oolong tea is a good antidote for sugar! Make sure you drink one cup of Oolong tea once before your breakfast and again before going to bed! You would find it pretty easy to suppress your sugary cravings this way!

Eat slow:

Eat slowly and savor every bite of the food you eat; that way, it would be easier for you to kill the junk food cravings and eventually you would end up eating less junk foods than usual! Experts say that our brain takes at least twenty minutes to realize that we are full. If you eat too fast then you are not giving your brain a chance to know whether you need to eat anymore or not! Consequently you would end up eating a lot more food than you need to!

In fact a recent study has found that people who eat slowly have fewer chances of gaining weight in holidays than those who eat hurriedly!

Cut down on high-calorie food intake:

You already know that sugar-rich foods are bad for you, so you need to avoid them as much as you can! Other foods you should avoid are white flour, loaf, cakes, biscuits, cookies, etc., as well as drinks such as alcohol and soft drinks! Once you take these foods out of your food plan, weight control would become much more easier for you!

How come I lose 30 pounds of FAT healthfully and lastingly?

January 23, 2009 By: http://www.BEHAPPYDIETING.COM Category: Health and Fitness No Comments →

Your body contains 70% of water, so it’s effortless to lose weight fast. Any diet that dehydrates you will make quick, dramatic weight loss. Similar to lose 10 pounds in over the weekend? That’s easy! Just stop drinking water! Of course that would be quite stupid and pretty rapid weight loss dangerous too, but that’s exactly what you’re doing when you lose weight that fast (you’re simply dehydrating yourself – or even worse – you’re losing lean body weight too!). The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), one of the biggest and most respected health, medical and exercise organizations in the world, has released guidelines for healthy rates of weight loss.

In their situation announcement on “Proper and improper weight loss programs,” the ACSM advises losing weight at a rate of no more than two pounds per week. These two pounds per week instruction has become recognized as the standard rate for safe weight (fat) loss. over and over I see people get eager and they attempt to violate this rule, only to lose muscle, slow their metabolisms and finally gain all the fat back…and then some! Weight loss is not something to be rushed. You can drop 30 pounds of weight in 30 days, but you’ll NEVER lose 30 pounds of fat in 30 days. There are nearly no limits to what you can attain in the long run. You will absolutely STUN yourself at how much you can get in one, two, three years if you attain on a supportive, healthy, long term nutrition and training program.

You can attain virtually any fat loss or fitness goal that you’re strictly committed to. However, you must be patient; there are exact limits to how quickly you can safely achieve fat loss. To many people who are frustrated with little or no results, even with their best intentions, physique-enhancing drugs or hormones appear to be a panacea or “miracle cure.” Steroids have been there for a long time. So have obesity drugs. Lately, there’s been a huge push – particularly on the Internet – for the employ of Human Growth Hormone or Testosterone under the harmless sounding auspices of “anti-aging medicine” and “Hormone substitution therapy.” This sales pitch is being made mainly to the baby boomers, who very much want to regain their youthful looks and vitality.

Dramatic short-term results in body composition can be attained from exmploy of weight loss drugs, steroids, thermogenics, thyroid drugs, growth hormone and further chemicals. However, appearances can be deceiving. The weight loss road of drug exmploy can be a wild ride in the beginning, but in the long run, it doesn’t lead you anywhere – it’s a dead end street. despite of whether we’re talking about illegal steroids and performance enhancers, recommendation obesity drugs, hormone substitution therapy, or even over the counter “fat burning” drugs like ephedrine, these are all really one in the same:

(1) Billion Dollar money factory, and
(2) Feeble short-term attempts at treating impacts, not causes.

Let’s take weight loss drugs, for instance:

What would happen if the pharmaceutical companies lastly came out with a “safe and effective” obesity drug and brought it to the marketplace on a enormous scale? Think about it: Did Xenical cure obesity? How about Phentermine? Meridia? Adipex? Bontril? Didrex? Tenuate? What about Ephedrine? Did that answer the obesity problem? How about gastric bypasses? 60,000 were made last year. Did that solve the obesity problem? In a few excessive cases where someone’s health is at stake, and when time is of the essence, the advantages of drugs obviously outweigh the risks. However, even in these cases, you have to concede that it’s a short-term healing. Here’s the problem with thinking that any drugs will be a long-term way out:

We live in an arranged world where everything happens for a reason (by “law”). For every effect, there is a cause. There are no accidents.

Notes On Healthy Weight Loss Diet & Weight Loss Diet Recipes

January 22, 2009 By: http://www.BEHAPPYDIETING.COM Category: Health and Fitness No Comments →

Lots of people need to teen weight loss tips, and lots of people are always on the look out for diets that work. It’s not really hard to find diets that work, but finding a diet a person can stick to is the problem. The diet industry is huge. Between books, diet food programs, trainers and nutritionists, spas, and all the other elements of the health and diet industry a lot of money, over 46.8 billion dollars in 2005, is made not from people becoming healthy or losing weight, but rather from people trying to become healthy or lose weight. Because repeat business brings in the cash, the focus is naturally on methods and products that work for a short time but result in return business.

Here’s a weight loss diet tips that works. Drink only water, eat only 1000 calories each day, and combine it with 30 minutes of aerobic activity five times a week. It’s a guarantee you’ll lose weight. But there are two problems. The first is that cravings are likely to ruin the diet. Sooner or later, particularly after returning home from work outs, those 1000 calories won’t be enough to satisfy. One piece of cake, or just one bag of chips, or one extra hot dog will soon steer you to dropping off the diet. The second problem is what happens after the diet ends? What happens when the weight is gone? What, you’ll go right back to eating the same way you ate before the diet? Guess what, then the weight will return. Next spring, or next time to wear that dress or tuxedo, or next vacation, or simply the next time you glance at a mirror on the way out of the shower it will be time to return to a diet to lose the unwanted pounds.

The best diet is a permanent diet. More and more people are coming to realize that for weight loss diet recipe it’s best to change lifestyle, including healthier eating habits and more physical activity. The Sonoma Diet, created by Connie Guttersen, focuses on ten “power foods.” These are almonds, bell peppers, blueberries, broccoli, grapes, olive oil, spinach, strawberries, tomatoes and whole grains, combined with the cuisine of the Sonoma country, which includes Asian, Latin American and Mediterranean influences. The diet includes a wide variety of real, and enjoyable foods so it’s easy to stay on it. Want a diet that works? Move your mind from a short term diet to a long term style that’s part of an overall healthy and active lifestyle. That way you won’t put on the pounds in the first place.

FAT: The fat in the cooking you consume can make you fat! As too much of any sort of fat can make you get weight, small amounts of fats are required for good health. These “better” fats are named polyunsaturates and monounsaturates. Polyunsaturated fats are contained in vegetable oils such as corn, safflower, soybean and sesame. Monounsaturated fats are found in olive, canola and peanut oils, and in avocado. Modest amounts of these “better” fats can be eaten every day.

Saturated fats are found in meats, dairy products and particular oils such as coconut, palm and palm kernel. Trans-fatty acids are found in margarine and have been shown to adversely have an cause on your cholesterol profile. They may endorse poor cardiovascular health and should be completely avoided. Here are several practical lose fat suggestions for sinking the amount of fat that you eat in your diet. Consume daily from the “green light” section of food choices, as being more careful with the “yellow light” foods. Eat “red light” food choices just rarely while following your weight-loss plan.

The word “carbohydrate” is a nutritional term for what is more usually known as “starch” or “sugar.” We need to consume a certain amount of carbohydrates because they supply calories or energy for the body, as well as eat other phytonutrients. There are three main types of carbohydrates: complex, refined and simple. Composite or whole-grain carbohydrates are the ones we should consume for good health. They are fairly low in fat while rich in vitamins, minerals and fibers. Instance of composite carbohydrates are solemn foods such as potatoes, yams, corn, whole-wheat bread, cereal and pasta, brown rice, beans, peas and lentils.

Refined carbohydrates contain white bread, white rice, pasta, cookies, pies, cakes and mainly baked desserts. It is finest to avoid these types of carbohydrates in general because they are high in calories and low in necessary nutrients. Plain carbohydrate is also recognized as “sugars.” several simple carbohydrates are good to eat such as whole, fresh fruits. Other plain carbohydrates should be avoided whilst on a weight-loss program. Examples of these contain white sugar, brown sugar, corn syrup, honey, maple syrup, molasses, malt syrup, jams and jellies.

It is simple to overeat both sophisticated and plain carbohydrates. Since the total number of calories is important while following a weight-loss regimen, it is recommended to bound these types of foods. Eat every day from the “green light” section, limit the foods from the “yellow light” section to once or twice a week, and typically keep away from the “red light” section while trying to lose weight and weight lose.

Fruits and vegetables are chock-full with fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and are extremely low in calories. They help keep you satisfied longer, and are a big snack and can be eaten with every meal. Eating meals all through the day will help remain your metabolism stable as well as burning calories all day long. When we don’t consume for an extended amount of time it in fact inhibits calorie burning. Take mom’s advice to heart and be sure to have breakfast in the morning! Make sure and consume your 3 meals a day, but also sneak in some healthy snacks to keep your body going!

Lots of of us grew up being told not to snack prior to dinner as we would spoil our appetite. In actuality, having snacks can help avoid you from overeating. It takes our bodies 10-15 minutes to realize we’ve had enough to eat. Because of this de-lay, it is very easy to consume more than what our bodies actually need, leaving us feeling overstuffed. When eating at home observe your portions. When eating out at restaurants share your entrees as they usually serve larger portions. Go ahead; spoil your dinner with some snacks.

In order for cooking to last on our shelves in the grocery store they are packed with preservatives, which in turn deplete the nutrients and vitamins initially found in those foods. When possible, purchase fresh foods and avoid pre-packaged and convenient fast food, as these kinds of food are typically higher in calories, fat, and sodium.

Best Guidelines to Your Results Will Come Up As Direct Part To The Amount Of Your Sweat

January 17, 2009 By: http://www.BEHAPPYDIETING.COM Category: Health and Fitness No Comments →

Make no mistake; people with big bodies, especially bodybuilders and fitness models, have worked extremely hard for a very long time to get where they are. Lots of the best natural bodybuilders in the world are in their late 30’s or early 40’s and have been working out for 10, 15, even 20 years. It’s an absolutely unbreakable lose belly fat law of the universe that you can’t get something for zero. Your results will come in instant proportion to the amount of effort you put in. You can just reap what you sow. It’s true; your heredity will, to a certain degree, dictate your athletic skill and the ease and speed with which you can lose fat. However, it’s a lie to utter that some people can’t lose weight because they’ve inherited a “slow metabolism.”

Let’s be honest; not each person is going to become an Olympic Gold medallist, a Mr. Universe or a Miss Fitness America. Though, you should never just “accept your genetics” and quit. Each one can lose fat. It just takes a bit longer for some than for others. Some people have inherited a metabolism and body type that is likely to favor fat storage. This body type is called an “endomorph.” Endomorphs may have a slower metabolism, they’re frequently carbohydrate sensitive, they gain fat quickly when they eat poorly; they gain fat quickly if they don’t exercise, and they might hold onto stored fat, even on a clean, low fat diet. Weight loss is easier for some than for others and that doesn’t look fair. But that’s the way life is. This plainly means you’re going to have to correct your diet and training to fit your body type and metabolism.

You might have to work harder than other people. You may have to be pushier than other people. You may need a stricter low carb than other people. You might need to train more intensely than other people. You may have fewer margins for error (fewer cheat days). The question is: Are you eager to do what it takes for you? I write and speak about the role of genetics in fitness a lot and the motivation is because I’m sick and tired of hearing people using their “bad genetics” as an excuse for why they can’t get in shape. It’s remarkable what a human being can accomplish when they have a crystal clear goal and they’re willing to do anything it takes to achieve that goal. Need proof?

Marla Runyan is a world champ middle distance runner. At the 2000 Olympic trials in Sacramento, Runyan captured third in the 1500 meters, finishing in 4:06.44; a time fine enough to gain her a berth on the 2000 US Olympic team.

At the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Runyan was eighth passing the finish line in 4:08.30.

Is this disappointing? Not when you believe that Runyan has been legally blind since her 9th birthday. Marla suffers from a genetically inherited syndrome of the retina, called Stargardt’s. She is considered officially blind because her situation cannot be corrected. Her vision is limited to the peripheral – she can just see shapes in front of her, and can’t even make out the face of her trainer ten feet away.

Despite this so-called handicap, Marla Runyan is the eighth top runner in the world in the 1500 meters. The first U.S. paralympian to attain the Olympics, Runyan says she doesn’t even look at her lack of sight as an obstacle; “I think my vision is just a condition that happened and I don’t look at it as a barrier. I never said I want to be the first officially blind runner to make the Olympics. I just wanted to be an Olympian.”

Unbiased Guidebook to Beware, Mistaken Diet Makes You Fatter

January 16, 2009 By: http://www.BEHAPPYDIETING.COM Category: Health and Fitness No Comments →

You can achieve an stopgap weight loss with a diet; on the other hand, every single method ultimately gives way to weight gain, furthermore following losses become progressively more difficult to achieve. And the worst part of all, you get progressively fatter on fewer foods. Dieting basically ineffective and makes you fatter. You may consider the ultimate fat loss contradiction: When you consume less, your body burns less. When you consume more, your body burns more. The more you cut your calories, the more your metabolism slows down. very low calorie diets not only have an effect on your metabolism slow down as a result you burn fewer calories; they can also have an result on muscle loss. Furthermore, they shut down your metabolism totally in the end. Afterward, the weight loss stops and any rise in calories that follows will have an effect on instant fat gain, also well-known as “rebound effect”. This is actually predictable, as no one can keep on low calories forever.

Watchfully evaluate the calorie suggestions of any diet program earlier than you start it. You will almost certainly find out that 95% of diet programs have you cut your calories to “starvation” degrees. Very low calorie diets will have an effect on weight loss in the beginning, unfortunately not for long. The human body always automatically strives to sustain an outstanding condition of balance: metabolism, body temperature, blood sugar, hormone levels, acid-alkaline balance and each further system in the body, are all normalized within a narrow range that your body gets secure and comfortable. As we know that the human body is very intelligent, it has abilities to constantly maintain all of these balances automatically even when we sleep. Each time you make a radical action with intention to formulate immediate change such as very fast weight loss, your metabolism in cybernetic regulate it to maintain stability in energy balance, very similar system as a thermostat maintains the temperature of your home in a wanted range.

Whenever you are at risk of starving, your body will response immediately, it is well-known as “the starvation response.” In this circumstance your body will suddenly regulate your metabolic rate downward similar to a thermostat, which means you burn fewer calories. Very low calories diets can basically make you fatter. It is physiologically impracticable to achieve ‘permanent’ fat loss and lean body by starving yourself. The only way to lose your fat permanently and retain it forever is to decrease your calories a little and increase your activities greatly. It is always much more improved burn the fat than attempt to starve the fat. When reading the list of ingredients on packaged foods, if you do not recognize the ingredient or cannot pronounce it, perhaps this isn’t something you want to be putting in your body. If you see a product with a laundry list of ingredients, put the item right back on the shelf. Also, make sure when reading weightloss labels to review whether calories and fat listed are per serving and not the whole container.

Whole grains are natural products that have maintained their nutrients and fiber content, unlike white products that are left with no nutritional value. An additional benefit to eating 100% whole grains, such as breads and pastas, is they help maintain blood sugar levels with less spiking and crashing throughout the day. Whole grains also keep you satisfied longer. Fat has gotten a reputation for being bad for us and in many cases this is true unless we are speaking about healthy fats that our body actually needs. Overeating wrong fats (saturated fats) can lead to those unwanted pounds as well as boost your risk of heart disease. Stick to healthy fat sources that are unsaturated such as olive oil instead of butter or margarine, which contain saturated fat. You can use these for saut

Learn More About Very Low Carbohydrate Diets Are The Not Best Way To Lose Fat

January 15, 2009 By: http://www.BEHAPPYDIETING.COM Category: Health and Fitness No Comments →

When I first wrote about these two athletes as a modela case of what a genetically disadvantaged person can achieve, I received an e-mail from an angry reader (who was very overweight and convinced that his genetics were to blame and there was nothing he could do about it). He wrote; “Tom, those are terrible loose weight fast examples. – Will a positive attitude restore Marla’s sight? Will positive thinking re-grow Carl’s leg?” I felt sorry for this poor fellow because he entirely missed the point, and because of his own “vision problem” he has limited his own development. The answer to his questions of course, are no; the chances of positive mental behavior growing back a leg or restoring one’s sight are mighty slim.

But that doesn’t matter; the dissimilarity between people like Marla and Carl and the man who wrote to me is that Marla and Carl didn’t use their genetic disabilities as justification for their own failure and mediocrity or as a reason for not even trying. No diet issue has created more confusion and controversy than the low carbohydrate vs. high carbohydrate debate. Contrary to what certain diet “guru’s” tell you, carbohydrates are not fattening. It’s a flat out LIE to say, “Carbohydrates are fattening.” What’s fattening is consuming more calories than your body can use at one time. However, it’s true that some people lose weight more quickly on a low carbohydrate diet (that’s not the same thing as saying carbohydrates are fattening.) It’s also true that almost all bodybuilder or fitness competitor uses some variation of the low carb diet to prepare for competitions.

Despite these facts, very low carb diets are not the ultimate answer to permanent weight loss. At worst they are unhealthy. At best they’re a temporary tool that should be used only for short periods to achieve specific fat loss goals (preparing for bodybuilding competition, for example). Even for carb-sensitive, insulin-resistant, hypoglycemic people who respond well to less carbs and more protein/fat, there are still many loose weight drawbacks:

1) Very low carb diets are difficult to stick to. If you remove most of your carbohydrates from your diet for a long period of time, you’re setting yourself up for a relapse. The more you cut back the carbs, the bigger the return will be when you put carbs back in. That’s why 95% of people gain back all the weight they lose on a very low carb diet.

2) Very low carb diets are often unbalanced and missing many nutrients. It’s still up for question whether low carb programs like the Atkin’s diet are unhealthy, but few people would argue that the healthiest diet is one that has balance between protein, carbs and fats and includes a wide diversity of foods, not an overemphasis on one food or food group.

3) Very low carb diets may be unhealthy. Many low carb diets allow large amount of saturated and processed fats. (No toast or pancakes are allowed, but bacon, sausage, butter and whole eggs for breakfast are just fine). In the absence of carbohydrates, you can consume fat with protein and you’ll still lose weight (fat doesn’t necessarily make you fat). But it’s probably not wise to consume large amounts of saturated fat and it’s never wise to eat processed fats or trans fats. Although the effects of low carb, high fat/protein diets on various health markers is still up for debate, most people would be very good to opt for a diet that is low in fat (below 30% of total calories) and moderate in carbs and protein.

Exercise At Home – Isometrics – Is It For Me? – Find Out For Yourself

January 14, 2009 By: http://www.BEHAPPYDIETING.COM Category: Health and Fitness No Comments →

A typical gym workout:

Sweating, breathing hard, watching the timer, cursing under my breath, aching, running out of steam, wishing to be somewhere/anywhere else, bored to tears, embarrassed by the scene in the omni-present mirrors, watching the timer some more, intimidated by the all the other “exercisers”, who make what we are doing look like child’s play.

Now that we are back to the gym on our pre-holiday schedule, and striving to get back to our 30 minutes minimum on the treadmill, preceded by at least 10 always uphill minutes on the dreaded “elliptical”; I thought I might share with you some thoughts.

Oh sure, I know that the heart strengthening results of such efforts far outweigh the downside; but, I certainly don’t have to revel in that knowledge. Exercise is work. Hard work. Age and obesity only increase the effort; so, at age 61 with an extra 80 pounds to carry around, exercise is a four letter word, no matter how you spell it, or perform it.

And granted, I do feel better at the end of each workout session than I did at the outset—at least after my heart rate and respiration normalize—anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes on a “good” day.

Now I’ll need about ten minutes or so in a hot and relaxingshower… followed by at least a ten minute “cool off” period before getting dressed. It’s cold and rainy today, so the trek through the parking lot to the car, followed by the fifteen minute drive home won’t do my cold much good.

So, here I am. Back in front of my trusty computer in just under two hours…still sweating…with legs that still think they are on the treadmill. Walking normally again will require another bit of adjustment.

That’s pretty much been the story since the day after Christmas; resulting so far in a discouraging net loss of one of the nine pounds I regained during the Thanksgiving to Christmas “eating marathon”, that occurs in a family of excellent and creative cooks.

Certain that, for all of my efforts, I deserved a lot more than a one pound reward, I did a “google” for ALTERNATIVE EXERCISE; and was presented with a host of options (859,000 “possibles”). Everything from belly dancing and yoga to martial arts and “water exercise for non-swimmers”. Nothing immediately caught my interest till I hit the page about Isometrics; and was reminded of the truly remarkable results achieved by my high school wrestling team when they switched to using the Isometric exercise routine exclusively, and started winning match after match.

Isometrics was being practiced even longer ago than my high school years….for thousands of years, in fact; used by athletes and health conscious civilians alike. There are probably even biblical references—cave paintings at least, though I can personally vouch for neither.

Thinking to narrow the search, I did another “google”. This time for “isometrics define” and was treated to 565,000 results. Not much relief there.

So, it’s one more search, this time going right to the core—a search for “isometrics” yielded a little over four million results. That is if you can consider 140,000 to be a “little over”.

And as usual, a significant number of those results have been created by someone with something to sell. One gentleman in particular is most noticeable with a “super-deluxe, one-of-a-kind, guaranteed results GIZMO”. His pages are well done, and are actually kind of entertaining; especially when you know as an absolute fact that a major advantage of Isometrics is that it can be done anywhere, anytime, by nearly anyone…with absolutely NO SPECIAL EQUIPMENT REQUIRED.

Sure, the GIZMO with the funny name, might be fun; and if someone gives you one, don’t throw it away. Just put it in the closet where it was probably destined to end up anyhow.

For now, here’s a free “intro to Isometrics lesson” that you can expand as you see fit:

(1) Put your palms together in front of you at chest height.

(2) Push; and count slowly to seven.

Well done! You’re off to a great start.
